Abbeville General is proud to announce that 2 of our OB nurses have obtained additional skills to continue to provide Vermilion parish residents with Quality Care Close to Home. Sada D. Powers BSN RN CLC and Heidi Barras BSN RN CLC have recently become CLCs – Certified Lactation Counselors. “The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice’s certification identifies a professional in lactation counseling who has demonstrated the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to provide breastfeeding counseling and management support to families who are thinking about breastfeeding or who have questions or problems during the course of breastfeeding/lactation.”
“CLCs have successfully completed a minimum of 45 hours of training based upon the footprint of the World Health Organization/ UNICEF Breastfeeding Counseling Training Course; have successfully passed a criterion-referenced examination; and demonstrated the competencies and skills required to provide safe, evidence-based counseling for pregnant, lactating and breastfeeding women.”
Sada and Heidi are members of Acadiana Breastfeeding Coalition and proudly wore the group member’s shirts while attending the course in Alexandria at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital.
