Abbeville General is proud to announce that our Labor & Delivery unit has achieved GIFT Shining Star designation. The Gift is an evidence-based program for Louisiana birthing facilities designed to increase breastfeeding rates and hospital success by improving the quality of their maternity services and enhancing patient-centered care.

There are 42 GIFT or GIFT Shining Star and 17 Baby-Friendly designated birthing facilities in Louisiana (April 2020). The GIFT program has two designation levels: The GIFT and the GIFT Shining Star. The GIFT Shining Star is the highest designation with more rigorous requirements. Abbeville General is one of 15 hospitals in Louisiana with this most prestigious distinction.
